Wind Damage in Yakima County
By Audrey Asistio
YAKIMA COUNTY -- High speed winds started Tuesday and continued through Wednesday. Truckers could barely stop their rigs from flipping on the freeway.
"I felt my trailer go right up and drop again. I hit my breaks and tried to hold onto it. The wind just took me right to the guardrail," says driver Joel Christian. Fruit bins and hundred year old trees toppled all over Yakima County Tuesday night. The highest gusts reached 66 miles per hour. Residents say it is the worst they have ever experienced. The wind toppled three trees onto Linda Lapierre's pool and gazebo. She says last night's winds were unreal. "I was like, oh my God! I need to get off this property because there's so many trees that could fall,"Lapierre says. Naches resident Roy Morgan received the worst damage from the winds. Pointing at his home, he tells Action News, "The back bedrooms were completely torn apart. All three of them. Lost a lot of stuff in there." Despite the loss, homeowners are keeping positive. Lapierre says, "My bedroom is really close so I just thank God no one got hurt." |
