Unscheduled Plane Landings in Yakima

YAKIMA -- What are the chances? Two airplanes headed to Seattle had to stop in Yakima.
Monday morning, an American Airlines flight had to land in Yakima because of bad weather in Seattle. They spent so much time circling Seattle-Tacoma Airport, the pilots finally landed in Yakima and bussed the people to Seattle. Sunday night, a Northwest airbus from London also landed in Yakima because of a mechanical problem. Yakima Airport Assistant Manager Toby Shope tells Action News, “Just by chance, by freak coincidence that these airliners would come at the same time, let alone one, two!” People on the Northwest flight had already spent hours on the plane getting to Yakima from London and then couldn't be let off because of customs concerns. |
