Losing Track of Sex Offenders
By Audrey Asistio
YAKIMA COUNTY -- You have seen the campaign ads - Governor Gregoire and Dino Rossi bashing each other. A new ad is out every other day, and the most recent topic is about sex offenders in the state.
Yakima County has a good amount of sex offenders and Action News wanted to know how many they have lost track of. The sheriff's office couldn't give us an exact number but say they have the problem under control. When an offender doesn't register, the sheriff's office starts searching. “It's easy to find them and get them back into compliance and there's always going to be that percentage that it's not so easy, and they are missing for awhile, but we do what we can,” says Carri Anne Ross with the Yakima County Sheriff's Office. Once a sex offender fails to register, the sheriff's office sends a warrant out for that person's arrest. |
