Alarm Systems
By Audrey Asistio
YAKIMA -- It's a door to door sale you might want to be wary of.
You have probably seen college students around your neighborhood, trying to sell you a home alarm system. But the company is flagged by the Better Business Bureau. Alissa Mork says, "They were just there to give us the good news. That Yakima had been selected out of more than 2,000 cities, due to our crime and high number of break-ins." A college student knocked on her front door. He said his APX alarm systems were selling fast, and she should buy one. He told her she was qualified for free installation, with a low monthly payment. But the salesman didn't look experienced, so Alissa wasn't buying it. Action News looked Online to see what this company was all about and found over 1,000 complaints on APX Alarm Systems. Complaints like systems failing only after a couple months, with no repairs, and consumers having a hard time getting out of their contract Alissa Mork asked herself, "I thought if they were to put in your security system and something happened, how would they fix it?” Previous alarm owners say the company might not. They say they've had to pay the monthly fee, even if the alarm is broken. Nathan Wilcox of APX Alarm Systems told me no one has ever told them about this problem before. But Zan Deery's seen the complaints come into the the Better Business Bureau. She told Action News, "They have a government action for questionable sales and service types of activity by the state of Louisiana." If you bought one of the systems and now regret it, you might be able to get out of it. Attorney Heidi Bolong says, "For door to door sales, there's a three day cooling off period which consumers can cancel a contract.. If it's beyond that time period, file a small claims court to have the contract canceled." The Better Business Bureau says APX Alarm Systems is a legitimate company and there's nothing illegal with their practice. APX Alarm Systems says they are willing to negotiate with any complaints their customers may have. |
