Branding Yakima Valley
By Valerie Hurst
YAKIMA--
Whether it's "the Palm Springs of Washington" or "Wine Country" or "Yakivegas"... The folks who head up tourism say logos don't matter. What we need is a way to get outsiders to remember Yakima. Surveys and workshops helped single out strong points. Now, it's time to sell it. "I think it would help us in that on the west side we seem to not have the best image, i think they still talk about the gang problems we have here," says Yakima resident Nancy Farley. The convention center won't tell us what it's come up with. It wants everyone to show up at a public launch next month. There are three of them on August 14th. At the convention center at 8:30am. One at the Yakama cultural center in Toppenish at 10:30am. And the last is at Olsen estates in Prosser that day at 2:00pm. |
