Rock-A-Thon For Children Of Fallen Soldiers
By Robin Woodson
UNION GAP -- It's the kick off to a 2 day rocking session.
Nearly 60 folks from the Yakima Valley will take a seat and rock to raise money. "It's drawing attention to the children of fallen service men or women," Participant, Lynn Morgan, said. The Rock-A-Thon is headlined by New Hope Church. It's a fundraiser for children of local soldiers who were killed overseas. "We do care about the job they're doing for us, keeping us safe, and it's just a small way of giving back," Morgan added. "It draws attention to those people who are impacted by the war in Iraq, that it does call us to support the soldiers and their families," New Hope Church Pastor, Bob Russell, said. Proceeds from the event will go to the Dustin Sides Fallen Families Memorial Fund. Then distributed to the families of seven fallen soldiers from the Yakima Valley. "I care about all those people because they're my community members," Participant, David Epperson, said. And when all is said and done, people taking part say this event is more than raising money. They also want residents to remember what the fund is for. "People recognizing the fact that it's there and if they want to do something that would help local kids this is a way to do it," Morgan explained. Folks will keep rocking until Saturday night. The goal is to raise at least $5,000. |
