Zirkle Fruit Firings

KIMA

By Robin Woodson

YAKIMA -- The employees say they had questions about the plant's safety policies.

They claim they were told to sign state required safety papers without any explanation.

When the former fruit packers refused to sign, they were kicked off the property.

Some of them had been with the company for two decades.

They say now, they're unsure how they'll make ends meet, but are looking at legal action against the company.

Ex-employee, Judith Garcia, said, "We had just a simple question, but they didn't listen to us, they said to leave the place immediately."

Reps from Zirkle Fruit say all five employees were given a full and fair opportunity to express any concerns.

They say the employees were fired for being insubordinate.
