Tribal Fisherman's Body Found

Tribal Fisherman's Body Found

By Robin Woodson

PARKER -- James Peter Jr. liked to be known as JJ.

His older brother tells Action News, JJ was a well educated and experienced fisherman.

He says he can't believe he lost a brother the same way he lost his dad.

"It wasn't his time," JJ's older brother, Easton Yallup, said.

Easton says the death of his little brother still hasn't sunk in.

JJ didn't come home from the family fishing trip.

"I was camping by myself watching our nets down the road, he dropped me off, and then went down, picked up my cousin, and they went out, and my Auntie woke me up the next morning and said they never came back," Yallup explained.

JJ and his two cousins, Galen Espirito and Rommell Strom, went missing nearly two weeks ago.

Early Sunday morning JJ's body was found floating in the river.

"We're sort of relieved, you know, we got his body, but don't feel the same yet with the others still out there," Yallup said.

Easton says he remembers his brother as a funny and educated young man.

He says JJ recently finished school studying mechanics and hadn't been fishing in a while.

It's also hard for the family since JJ's father also died while fishing on the Columbia.

Easton says his family isn't giving up hope on finding the other two men.

When asked, "Do you think the other two will show up?"

Easton replied, "Yeah, we're praying for it, so it's a matter of time."

He also tells Action News, after his family buries JJ tomorrow night, they plan on heading back to the river to help find the other two fishermen.

JJ was the father of a four year old son, who's now lost his Dad and his Grandpa in the very same way.

The Yakama Nation is also helping the family pay for JJ's funeral services.
