Officer Bit By Dog During Standoff

Officer Bit By Dog During Standoff

YAKIMA--Cops arrested a bunch of people because of a neighbor's call, saying someone was firing a gun from the front porch of a Naches Ave. home.
They surrounded the home and were out there forever, it seemed.
But it wasn't those people living inside who gave cops the runaround.

"The neighbors are lying," says Marie Kibdoo.

Family members of those living in the house say there's no way someone stood on the front porch and fired a gun.
But that's exactly what a neighbor reported to police.

"There are some neighbors around here who don't like my son," Marie says.
(reporter) "So you don't think he was really walking around..."
"Oh heck no! My son's not stupid. Heck no he would never do that..."

Yakima police officers and swat members on duty surrounded the Naches ave home...
They say they found a BB gun and a rifle inside.
They arrested several people, including a woman, who showed up looking angry.

"Her husband, her children, wouldn't you be upset?"

Taking the suspects into custody wasn't nearly as difficult as getting several dogs out of the house.
One actually bit a police officer in the leg and left puncture wounds... and a couple other dogs had to be tased.

"Put a couple band-aids on, they'll check on him further but right now he's walking around, so we believe he'll be fine," Captain Greg Copeland says.

Pitbulls are illegal in Yakima, so cops say at least one person will likely face charges.
Several people we spoke to say there's a lot of crime in this neighborhood.
Most wouldn't go on camera for fear of retaliation.
But one neighbor is sure whoever called police was mistaken.

"I believe it was a BB gun because no one's stupid, why would they have a gun out here, they know cops come around here all the time," she says.

Animal control tried to cage at least five dogs.
Not all of them were pitbulls.
Yakima police say this block is a place they get called to often.
Juan Nanez--whose death has just been ruled a murder--lived across the street.
Cops say there's no connection between him and today's incident.
Police on-scene told us the woman they arrested had a gun.
The illegal dogs and the rifle in the house could bring more charges .
