Yakima Man's Death Makes Shooting Murder Case

YAKIMA -- A Yakima man shot last month died in a hospital from his injuries Monday afternoon, turning the shooting case into a murder, police said.

Juan Nanez, 31, never told police who shot him or why, according to a Yakima Police Department press release.

Witnesses said they heard several shots on the 400 block of Beech Street on April 5, and saw a dark colored van at Nanez's home that night.

Police believe it's gang-related, but they're not certain.

Nanez had been in the hospital since the shooting.

An autopsy will be done on Nanez on Wednesday.
