Murderer's Sentencing Delayed
By Maria Medina & Ivan Garcia
YAKIMA -- A murderer asked for more time before being put away for good Thursday as the victim's relatives sat in court waiting for justice to be served.
"We always will have a good memory of her," said Aracely Lopez's sister-in-law Crystal Vasquez. " We just want her to rest." Mariano Diaz's attorney argued for more time before Diaz gets sentenced for for the murder of Lopez a few years ago. Sheriff's deputies found her burned body in a remote area of the Yakama Indian Reservation. Investigators said Diaz and his girlfriend, Luisa Sanchez, kidnapped Lopez because they believed she stole their friend's car. Sanchez pleaded guilty soon after the body was found. |
