YAKIMA, Wash. -- A Yakima Municipal Court clerk accused of using her position to access the records of her opponents in the race for Yakima County Clerk may be fired.

Sarah Matheny is currently on paid administrative leave. She will face a disciplinary hearing on Sept. 8. The city says it plans to fire her.

Matheny was already disciplined after a city investigation found she accessed the driving records of rival candidate Steve Driscoll. The city then found out she had also looked into the backgrounds of other candidates in the race.

Matheny finished second in this month's primary election for county clerk. She and Janelle Riddle will appear on the general election ballot in November.

The full letter from Yakima Municipal Court outlining the disciplinary procedure is available here.
