Yakima making it easier for you to build or remodel along water
YAKIMA, Wash. -- People living on waterfront property may not run into so much red tape while trying to build or remodel.

Yakima's master shoreline plan is being updated for the first time since the 70's.

Right now, minor fixes require a permit and an inspector.

New permits would be good for five-years and give waterfront property owners freedom to make approved changes without paying for an inspection every time.

It could encourage more people to build near water.

"I've inquired before about building a dock out here and I heard the process was a nightmare and maybe impossible, at the time that I inquired a few years back. So it's nice to hear that if I wanted to put a dock out here that maybe I would be able to do so without a lot of trouble and expense," Todd Homer said.

Changes would also allow you to build closer to the water by reducing the buffer zone.
