Yakima kicking out the homeless
YAKIMA, Wash. -- Yakima’s homeless are getting kicked out. The city gave people a 72-hour notice to leave the camp they set up under a highway.
An area under the State Route 12 bridge has housed the homeless for years, but Yakima says: no more.
"We can't just let people trespass and continue to live the way they are up there," said Codes supervisor Glenn Denman.
People living here don't have anywhere else to go. Yakima City Code Enforcement said there's been a rise in complaints that they can't ignore.
"They've had fires under there and apparently there's drug activity," said Denman.
"So we've moved them out of this area, but now they are just going to move somewhere else,” said Action News. “What is the solution to this?"
"I don't know what the solution is," said Denman.
Bob Barbee watched from the street and thinks Yakima needs to do more than just make them leave.
"If you are going to kick them out then find some place for them to stay you know because that's their only home,” he said. “I tell people it's by the grace of God that's not you"
No Trespass signs have gone up. That allows police to arrest anyone on the property. It solves the homeless problem here, but likely only moves it somewhere else.
Yakima plans to move more of the homeless on Monday.

I think its good to move them, why not send them to the union gospel mission...just a short jont down the street, there people too
Until people realiize it can happen to them nothing will change, I once thought how could a person become homeless?  they must be lazy? Stupid? as I crippled myself for 28 years, only to find out first hand at 47 It is easy to be homeless...I am no one want s  to hire a homeless Craftsman when you can hire 3 young kids or $6 non speaking helper and get advice at the local lumber yard by a 17 year old pimple face pro at the desk!

Moving the problem somewhere else is not, in fact, solving it anywhere. Â And where are they proposing that "the problem", as they so kindly refer to this community as, even move to? Â There are very few emergency shelters in Yakima, and most of them are often full. Â There was also a group of teenagers living under that overpass who will now have nowhere at all to go, since shelters require that you be 18 in order to stay overnight. Â I just wish that the city would work to create a solution rather than continuing to further displace already displaced people.
I have a simple solution why not create a TENT CITY for the homeless people .
it works in So.Cal.
Shelters are full, they also limit the time people can stay on a regular basis. Mental Health and Chemical dependency treatment also limited due to funding. These folks are just down on their luck and they need help. Homeless people are PEOPLE too!
O h I know what to do, lets allow our president to continue foreign aid and ignore them. Personally I have been fishing along the river, you would be amazed at the population living there, No it not just a hispanic thing, but it is a majority. There is soooooooo much trash under thaose bridges, if I was a younger person or female I would probably be terrified for my life to go there alone. I carry a pistol when fishing just in case I happen across any gang bangers who want to die, now I have added homeless people to the list.
@mrcarlucci While you are at it, just set up concentration camps like the ones in NAZI Germany and sent the homeless, and other people you consider not worthy of life. When that happens, I will be praying that some nation in this world liberates the US just like we did when we defeated Germany
Let's give all our money in The United States away to foreign aid to people who hate us . We should have no homeless and starving people in this country ! You officials  in the Yakima area are a real compassionate bunch I can tell !!
And where do you think they will end up at? In our local parks creating a more in your face problems for residents living around these areas.
Thanks for making a problem, bigger.
So when are they going to do something about the beggars with signs on the street corners???
@Kim There are a lot of hurting people out there who don't have enough money for shelter. Do you really think that this 'go elsewhere attitude is going to really solve anything?
