YAKIMA, Wash. -- KIMA is keeping an eye on the issue of understaffed fire departments here in Yakima.

So called "brown outs" take one of the city's fire trucks out of service. We learned in the last three months there have been 25 days where Yakima fire was understaffed. It happens when there is an overlapping of vacation or sick days. Instead of calling a firefighter in to cover, the department runs with less staff. It's to save money on overtime.

So far this year there have been more than 52 "brown out" days.
