YAKIMA, Wash. -- A local park is one step closer to some major upgrades. Construction began this week at Franklin Park for a new playground and pavilion.

The city held a ground breaking ceremony today. The pavilion project is valued at $200,000. Yakima's sunrise rotary raised the money for the project.

"To have the place to socialize is great," said project manager, Howard Moore. "Get it in the outdoors where people can have some fun. Provide a facility to keep them doing something they should be rather than something they shouldn't be doing."

The pavilion and playground should be done in about two months.
