YAKIMA, Wash. -- It has a pool, open green space and tennis courts but Yakima's Franklin Park is missing one thing: a playground. KIMA learned that will soon change.

The Yakima Rotary Club will donate more than $80,000 to build one there.

Franklin Park once had a playground but It was removed after becoming a constant target of vandals.

The Parks and Recreation department said the new structure will sit just west of the tennis courts.

"It's an amazing opportunity for Franklin Park. They've been missing that element for a long time. I think as a taxpayer it's a great thing," said park visitor Stephanie Fleming.

Construction is expected to start this spring. Rotary volunteers will install the equipment.

Yakima plans to hire one supervisor to monitor the progress.
