YAKIMA, Wash. -- Cooler nights here in Yakima are causing problems for farmers. The chilly conditions are causing fruit to ripen faster. Now, farmers are picking three to four different crops at once. That's spreading their already thin work force even thinner.

“We are really struggling,” said farmer John Verbrugge. “We are behind probably 30 percent in people and we are running about five days behind.”

Farmers should know by the end of next week if the weather will hurt their profits.
