YAKIMA, Wash. -- Washington state made history today in Yakima as prominent leaders signed the Washington Compact. It's a way to create a framework for immigration reform in this state and the country.
Dozens of people filled the room to hear from speakers like former republic congressman, Sid Morrison. Several prominent figures signed the compact.
People we talked to say it's a step in the right direction that should have happened long ago.
"Do it now," said Morrison. "Get it behind us. Let's get on with competing with the rest of the world."
Supporters say the next step will be reaching out to congress to gain more support.
