Wapato considers plan to save money by housing more inmates
WAPATO, Wash. -- Wapato police think they could save the city thousands of dollars a year.

It would mean housing more inmates at its own jail.

Wapato currently pays Toppenish to hold about ten inmates a month.

The police chief would like to add more beds in the Wapato jail.

The chief says start-up costs would be worth it in the end.

The mayor and city council are reviewing the idea.
