YAKIMA, Wash. -- Vandals left behind a trail of damage in a quiet neighborhood in Naches. They destroyed thousands of dollars in property. Naches Intermediate School wound up in the middle of it. Action News learned investigators are tracking fingerprints and blood left behind.
Monday night Naches intermediate school got some unexpected and unwelcome visitors.
School janitor Ron Dixon was the first to notice their trace in the hallway.
"You couldn't even see,” said Naches Intermediate School Janitor, Ron Dixon. “So at first I thought it was smoke."
It wasn't smoke. A fire extinguisher was sprayed down the hall, but there was no fire.
After looking around, Ron discovered someone broke into the building. He found two busted windows and a trashed classroom.
"Everything was on the floor all the computers over here," said Dixon.
It took four people an hour to clean the mess. The outside of the school also got hit. Profanity was sprayed on the back of the building and the playground bathrooms.
It didn't end there, two buses where broken into at the district's garage across the street.
They took off the overhead mirrors and smashed them.
The cost to repair two broken mirrors two fire extinguishers and some paint to cover the graffiti is expected to cost a little more than $2,000 and that's just for damages done at the district.
In a quiet neighborhood near-by, three cars and a house were painted with graffiti along with other damage.
"I've lived here in this house since 1958 and never even dreamed of anything going this way," said a neighbor who didn’t want to identify themselves.
Neighbors said they always felt secure here, but have now lost that feeling. The same goes for the school district. Yakima Sheriff's Deputies are now working to restore that. They found fingerprints and blood at the scene hoping to catch the person or people responsible.
Deputies say the crime could be connected to a car with a Canadian license plate that was in the area at the time.
