Union Gap officially welcomes new city manager
UNION GAP, Wash. -- Dozens attended a meet-and-greet to welcome the newest city manager on his first official day on the job.

Rodney Otterness comes from Minnesota. He has years of experience in public administration.

Otterness said there's still two feet of snow on the ground in Minnesota. So, he's happy to have already seen 70's in the Yakima Valley and hopes to see good things happen here.

"It's our goal in local government to always make a community better. We recognize that everyday that we can learn and improve," Otterness said. "So, I'm looking forward to doing that under the guidance and the wisdom and the vision that our elected city council will be providing me."

One of the city manager's first duties will be to hire a new Union Gap police chief.
