YAKIMA, Wash. -- A longtime volunteer at the Plaid Door decided to say goodbye. She's been volunteering there for almost 20 years. Rae Prenslow started when she was 80!
This is not your average 98 year-old. She drives, lives alone and takes care of herself. Until now, Rae Prenslow has been volunteering at the Plaid Door four days a week.
"At home I would be by myself,” said Prenslow. “Here you're with people, happy people."
Customers at the second-hand shop have been helped by Rae for the last 18-years.
"She's my hero, I'll never make it to 98,” said Marilyn Cline. “But, boy if I do, if I could be one-eighth as good as her I would be very happy.”
Cline has been working with Prenslow for years. She said Prenslow has lit up the Plaid Door with her personality. Prenslow said keeping a positive spirit was hard when her husband passed. She feels The Plaid Door saved her.
"It's been a blessing my 18 years, very much a blessing," said Prenslow.
At 98, Rae said she's getting tired, and it's time to quit. Even in retired life you still may find Rae at the Plaid Door just not behind the counter.
Rae's longevity seems to run in the family her mother lived to be 92.

My family affectionally refers to this lovely lady as PB.Â
