Preventing accidents with bike safety
YAKIMA, Wash.-- With this warm weather, it's a perfect time to head out for a bike ride. But after some troubling bike accidents in Yakima, safety is a top priority.

The Yakima Lions club teamed up with the boy scouts to teach kids about bike safety. 70 helmets were given away Saturday as kids had to navigate around different obstacle courses. The training comes after Tuesday's accident when a bicyclist was hit by a truck and thrown 80 feet.

"They can run into a pot hole and fall over and hurt themselves and break an arm and a leg," said Alex Schulte, a First Class Boy Scout. "So we're teaching it at such an early age so when they get older they know what to expect."

We're told another safety course is in the planning stages right now.
