SUNNYSIDE, Wash. -- Sunnyside is moving forward with plans to build a new fire station.

The station will more than double in size. Plans involve tearing down the building next door in order to expand.

The current building hasn't been remodeled since the 60's.

Voters approved a bond to pay for the addition, remodel and the station's very first ladder truck.

"We're keeping our fire station centrally located," said Sunnyside Fire Chief Aaron Markham. "So that means response times are pretty much unilateral throughout the city. Relocating to a different spot would effect response time depending on where you live."

Sunnyside's fire chief also says the remodel will let more firefighters stay overnight in better conditions.
