YAKIMA, Wash. -- KIMA is following up on a city ordinance that made it legal to fine rowdy passengers on Yakima's buses. We learned there hasn't been one ticket given in more than two years.

The officer assigned to the transit center says speaking with unruly passengers or banning them from the area works better.

Despite that, a lot of people think the penalties of 90-days in jail or a $1,000 fine would stop bad passengers.

"The police around here help a lot," said passenger, Anselmo Maria. "Keep some of the peace around here."

Any passenger who is drunk, on drugs or causes a disturbance could still face those misdemeanor penalties.
