Mixed opinions during marijuana debate in Yakima

YAKIMA, Wash.-- There was a debate in Yakima Wednesday on whether marijuana should be produced and sold within the city. Yakima's planning commission held a public hearing on the issue.

The city hopes to ban production and sale of pot. But, it would mean missing out on potential tax money. Public opinion was mixed.

"It in essence will encourage the current system which marijuana dealers continue to sell to underage individuals," one person said.

"It is to protect youth until they reach an adult age and the other is to maintain ourselves is compliance with all laws that govern us including federal laws," another person said.

The commission will present its findings later this month. The ban isn't for the actual use of marijuana, just for the production or sale.
