YAKIMA, Wash. -- A new armored car for YPD's SWAT team is on the streets.

Officers hope it will give them an advantage against criminals.

It replaces the old SWAT truck that dated back to the 1970's. The armored car can carry more officers. It's narrower to make easier to maneuver in tight alleys.

"Gives us more mobility in the field. Gives us more options in the field. And, hopefully gives us more protection for the citizens and the officers," Sergeant Gary Jones said.

YPD paid $130 thousand for the refurbished SWAT truck. A new one would have cost double that.
