Deputies: Man hit by tractor, killed in Lower Valley farm accident

YAKIMA COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE PRESS RELEASE -- Around 9:00 am on July 4th, deputies from the Yakima County Sheriff’s Office, Officers from the Yakama Nation PD, and members from the Lower Valley Fire District responded to a tractor accident at the 2800 block of West Wapato Rd.
The initial investigation revealed that an employee, a 44 year old Yakima area resident, had been attempting to change a tire on a sprayer trailer that was attached to a farm tractor which was still running.
During the process the tractor began to move forward and got away from the worker. The worker was then run over by the tractor and/or trailer.
Members from the fire department attempted CPR on the worker but were unsuccessful. The worker was pronounced dead at the scene.
The department of Labor and Industries was contacted and will be conducting an investigation as this was a work related accident.
The man's name has not yet been released.
