House fire threatens 2 families
YAKIMA, Wash.-- A fire on E. Walnut St. at about 2am threatened the lives of 9 people. A mom and her 3 kids were inside when they woke up to smoke. Fire fighters got the family out living in the next door apartment. Living there is a couple and 3 kids. Everyone is safe and nobody was hurt, but neither apartment had smoke detectors installed. Before leaving, the fire department installed one in each apartment.

"I said ‘did you have a fire detector and smoke detector?’ and ‘no’, but now they do,” said Iselda Acosta. “That's exactly, that was the first thing I asked them."

Damages totaled about $10,000. The families are still living in the duplex. There will be an investigation because the cause of the fire is suspicious.
