Hispanic Chamber of Commerce plans to disband

Hispanic Chamber of Commerce plans to disband
YAKIMA COUNTY, Wash. -- Bad finances have forced the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Yakima County to file for bankruptcy. It now plans to disband.

A man sued the organization after it backed out of a contract for a Cinco de Mayo event last year. The Chamber says it backed out after discovering the contractor didn't have an active business license. The man sued and was awarded almost $15,000.

"We were shocked because we thought we were actually going to win but unfortunately we lost," Hispanic Chamber of Commerce President Nestor Hernandez said.

The judgment bankrupted the Chamber. The Latino Business Association will assume its responsibilities.
