YAKIMA, Wash. -- Governor Chris Gregoire winds down her term with a couple of stops in the Yakima Valley today.
KIMA asked her how she expects local schools to thrive as stimulus money disappears.
"We have cut and cut and cut. There's not a whole lot left to cut overall in the budget. Our economic recovery is not happening like we had hoped, it's slow, it's steady, but it's slow. So we're gonna have to find new resources. That's the future for this area particularly," Gregoire said.
Districts like Yakima recently transferred money from reserves to balance the budget.
The Governor did not say where any new resources might come from.
Action News also asked Gregoire about the challenges facing local schools and her stance on the charter school initiative that you will decide at the ballot box in November.
"I'm not a supporter. I'm not a supporter because I have studied this issue. Everywhere across the country I see no better results from charter schools than I do public schools, yet we're struggling to support our public schools and now we're going to add charter schools. How are going to pay for them," Gregoire said.
Charter schools would be exempt from some government rules to give them flexibility in curriculum and teaching.

How are pay increases, cuts? In the 05-07 budget, education expenditures were $13.753 billion. In 07-09, $15.893 Billion. In 09-11, $16.054 Billion. In 11-13, $16.368 Billion. There has been no cuts. The governor is lying. As for charter schools, she's only study the issue based on reports produced by unions who want to protect their jobs.Â
Well if the Public Schools work so well there would be no need for alternative forms to teach kids. Public Schools have become the stale playground of Progressive theology and the dumbing down of American children so that Teachers Unions can take money needed to keep up with growing population in the U.S.

Maybe if Teachers taught kids English, Math and American History then maybe we would have kids ready to take over for their parents in the workplace. But with all the Social Justice engineering currently fomenting in High Schools or Activism on Immigration when do they have time to learn the needed information to prepare them to become Structural Engineers, Computer Software Engineers (not hackers for Social Justice). Where is the accountability for the lack of improvement in our children's skills vs the World.
