East Valley parents say new bridge in school zone is dangerous

YAKIMA, Wash. -- KIMA looked into your concerns about a new bridge in the heart of the East Valley school zone.
Drivers complain the high arch makes it hard to see who's on the other side.
Yakima County just finished building the bridge.
Action News kept you up-to-date all summer on the traffic changes.
Now parents worry those changes might be dangerous.
"When we pull out of the parking lot to go over the bridge you can not see oncoming traffic. You end up pulling out in front of somebody before you see them coming," said a concerned mother.
The county told us the low speed limit allows drivers to safely cross the bridge, despite the arch.
They say perfect visibility is almost impossible on any road. However, they will listen to any concerns or complaints drivers have about the issue.

The speed limit in a school zone is 20 mph, not 25. Posting an officer there would be great but where are they going to come up with another deputy? Has nobody seen the news? There are, at any given time a maximum of 4 deputies on duty to cover the upper valley. And that is on a good day, usually there are 3.
My child goes to school there, I have driven both directions over the bridge, pulled out from the various schools and I don't seem to have any issues. The construction was done for the safety of the kids who walked across the street- it is doing it's job.
This area is no different than anywhere else where "other drivers" are concerned. People complain whether it is before, during or after. Can't we find something better to do for heaven's sake?
Â
What is the speed limit in a school zone during busy hours, duuuuhhhh, 25 mph. Â maybe 35, if not, the county has the wrong speed. Â So true about the cell phone comment, look around, everyone is still on the phone, especially young drivers.
Â
Post an officer for a couple days and I'm sure you would find negligence would be the only concern, and we wouldn't have to spend more tax dollars on things people should be personally responsible for themselves.
Try looking up from your cell phone and past the hood of your car, Im sure you will be able to see down the road than.
