Carl's Jr frenzy: New food spot creates traffic backups

YAKIMA, Wash. -- Drivers contacted KIMA after all the hype around the new Carl's Jr here in Yakima started having a spillover effect on nearby traffic.
It's so busy at times that cars line up well onto 1st Street from the drive-thru.
Our cameras caught the problem first hand. We were rolling Thursday after an accident happened right at the restaurant.
Yakima Police say they haven't received any complaints, but drivers are noticing.
“It seems ridiculous to me that people would put their own safety and other people's safety at risk just to get a hamburger," said Cathy Ubelaker.
Yakima Police say a similar situation happened when the Sonic opened almost four years ago. They expect things should calm down over time.
