Court rule: Yakima will have to hire more public defenders
YAKIMA, Wash. -- Yakima will have to come up with a way to pay for more public defenders after a ruling from the State Supreme Court.

KIMA first told you about the limits of caseloads for public defenders.

That's rule has been approved by the state's Supreme Court.

The city now anticipates hiring up to 20 more public defenders. Currently, the city spends almost a half-million dollars a year on public defender contracts.

That could jump by another million at least. The rule will take effect Fall of next year.
