Cities come together as committee for first time in 6 years
YAKIMA COUNTY, Wash.-- Elected officials from all 14 cities in Yakima County met today at the Zillah Civic Center to re-establish an old committee. The County-Wide Planning Committee hasn't met about Urban Growth Development in 6 years. They had their first meeting today to discuss what the new group will change.

One of the biggest issues is helping parts of the county that aren't technically in the city. Maintaining their streets and sewage are part of the problem. These areas are called Unincorporated Urban Growth Areas, and the group wants each city to have these areas see economic success.

"There are several other goals, though, through this process," said Jeff Spencer, the Assistant Director of the Planning Division. "One of which would be to create economic development tools."

They will meet almost every month to work towards their 3-year plan.
