YAKIMA, Wash. -- KIMA learned Yakima is beginning to feel the effects of an ammunition shortage. You might have noticed bare shelves at some gun shops.

We found out the shortage could hit Yakima police officers. The department is still stocked. However, the armory director says he worries about running into trouble when it comes time to order ammunition for this year.

We're told the reaction to the school shooting in Connecticut might be a reason for the low supply.

Prices for YPD's ammo jumped 70% between 2011 and 2012.
