YAKIMA, Wash. -- A plan to connect two park areas in Yakima won't happen until next year. You contacted us wondering when you can expect to see any work.

The planned pathway was first announced in the Spring as a way to connect the Powerhouse Canal to the William O. Douglas Trail at Fifth and Willow.

KIMA learned bids on the project were higher than the budget. Yakima will ask for a new round of bids next month and hopes to start construction in the spring.

People told Action News the new path will be a positive change.

"It's important for any community, but for Yakima yeah, it could bring the races together," said Rhonda Culvertson. "I think it would be great."

A grant from the Yakima Valley Conference of Governments is paying for the pathway.
