YAKIMA, Wash. -- New technology is coming to Sunnyside's airport and it will help improve safety for private and emergency planes flying in and out.

KIMA learned the city recently received a $117,000 grant from the Federal Aviation Administration.

Sunnyside will also take out a $25,000 loan to install an All weather observation center.

It will help provide up to date weather information to planes.

City leaders say it's critical to especially during poor weather conditions.

"It gives us the opportunity for more planes to land in Sunnyside on days that they would not normally be able to land," said Sunnyside Mayor Mike Farmer.

The new system will be installed this summer.
