Does the high price of gas have you thinking about ditching your gas-guzzler? Consumer Reports has come up with a Top 10 list of cars that deliver the best fuel economy for the buck.

To put it together, Consumer Reports took the price paid for vehicles tested and divided it by the overall miles per gallon the vehicle gets to come up with the price per gallon.

Only cars recommended by Consumer Reports with an excellent owner-cost rating for the first five years made the list.

The Mazda3 with the manual transmission made No. 4 on the list.

Not surprisingly, three hybrids made the Top 10, including the Toyota Prius, coming in at No. 3.

But an even better gas-saving deal turned out to be the Honda Fit. The base model comes in at No. 2.

And the Fit Sport with a manual transmission tops the list at No. 1. All of those will deliver great mileage at a good cost.

On the other end of the spectrum, Consumer Reports found the miles per gallon cost on some vehicles was 10 times as much as the cars at the top of the list, including the Mercedes Benz SL550 and the Dodge Viper SRT-10.
