Ken Schram: Does she deserve a reward?

SEATTLE -- Does she deserve a reward?

John Carlson, my "Commentators" radio colleague, and I knocked that question around concerning Lynita Regis.

She’s the single, unemployed mom who inexplicably found $271,366.01 in her bank account.

Facing eviction and mired in debt, Lynita wrestled with the temptation of using the money to ease things for her and her family.

In the end, she did the right thing, went to the bank, pointed out the error and ultimately found her account overdrawn by 3 bucks.

Carlson insisted that while she wasn't entitled to a reward, she deserved one.

I argued that she doesn't deserve a reward for not stealing money.

Do I hope her honesty results in good things for her?

You bet.

I hope some employer sees how a woman of good character would make a great employee.

I hope karma and grace shower down upon her life.

But I honestly don't get the notion that what amounts to not having robbed a bank requires the bestowal of a cash reward.

If you disagree, send me some reward money.

I promise to share it with all the people I know who yesterday didn't steal anything from anyone, even when they had the chance.
