Fairy Godmother Project

6th Annual Fairy Godmother Project
Every girl dreams of prom; what the theme will be, who will ask her, and of course what will she wear? Although most teenage girls dream of prom, the reality of going is expensive. A dress alone could cost from $100 up to $400, plus the cost of hair and make-up, tickets, and usually a meal at a nice restaurant.
Living in a smaller community and the high cost of going to prom, Central Washington University’s Student Fashion Association and the Apparel, Textiles and Merchandising Program recognizes these factors and is holding the 6th annual Fairy Godmother Project for the local community.
This project serves the purpose of providing new or gently used evening gowns, shoes and accessories to those who may not be able to afford them. No matter the reason for why a young girl may not have their own dress, it’s not an issue. Prom is a traditional event for American high school students. Every student should have the opportunity to attend prom regardless of their personal or financial background.
Admission is to the event is $5, which enters the attendee into a raffle for a prom gift donated by a local business. Once in the doors girls are free to pick and try on dresses, shoes and accessories. “Personal shoppers" help students choose dresses, shoes, purses and jewelry for their prom. All items range from $5-$40 and its first come first serve.
