2 rescued from Yakima River after boat sinks
YAKIMA, Wash. - Yakima County Sheriff's Marine Patrol rescued Sam Hitchcock and his teen aged son Samuel from on island on the Yakima River below the Mellis Rd. landing this morning.

The pair was duck hunting in a drift style boat.

Deputies report that one of the oars broke and control of the boat was lost. It got caught in the current and was submerged.

Both made it to an island down river and were not injured. The boy was wearing a life vest at the time.

SAR member Darin Tussler and Deputy Scot Swallow picked up the stranded hunters safely.

The water was 44 degrees at the time.
